However, our participants revealed a surprising twist amidst the various options. While the potential for romantic sparks igniting on-screen is real, they hold a torch for face-to-face connections. The heartwarming truth? Respondents aged 25 and above opt to expand their horizons and explore new connections using dating apps while believing the true magic unfolds in the offline world.
Matchmaking — Friends vs Family
While digital platforms have their allure, the real-life link of shared connections remains a timeless catalyst for connection. One of the most heartening discoveries was the enduring role of friends and mutual connections in igniting the spark of romance. Approximately 50% of committed-relationship participants shared tales of kindred connections, revealing that friendship circles often paved the way to meaningful relationships. However, although a friend’s match might light up sparks, it is most wise to tread the dynamics of the relationship carefully. As respondents pointed out, blending romance and friendship could lead to tricky situations if love’s journey takes an unexpected turn.
While respondents exhibit openness to connections facilitated by friends, a cautious stance emerges regarding parental matchmaking. The desire to draw clear boundaries between familial relationships and romantic pursuits is a recurring theme, reflecting a modern approach to finding love. Participants speak candidly: “I’d rather not be matchmade by parents.” This sentiment resonates with many, capturing a strong no thanks to this age-old practice. As one participant quipped, “They do not matchmake me, but if they did, I would probably react adversely.”

I think other interest groups would be good places to find a partner too.”

They are cautious about romantic prospects, often due to concerns about the “less than wholesome” crowd frequenting these places.
Love and work intersect in complex ways, and our findings reflect the delicate balance individuals strive to maintain. Respondents above the age of 25 emerge as cautious and more likely to consider finding love at work challenging. However, the consensus takes a nuanced turn — it’s not an impossibility but rather a conscious decision to maintain a specific boundary between professional and personal spheres. A respondent aptly highlights how they register colleagues as colleagues and draw the boundary there, hindering the development of romantic relationships. Another highlights how dating in the workplace could “affect career/professionalism” and the importance of having “some space in your personal lives from each other.” This perspective highlights the importance of preserving professionalism and creating space for personal growth, even as hearts intertwine.
No exploration of modern love would be complete without acknowledging the challenges and hopes that come with it. While some worry about the impact of hookup culture or the pressure of societal expectations, a prevailing sense of hope prevails. The belief that the right person will arrive at the perfect moment is a beacon that guides many. Chance encounters, shared hobbies, and even bars hold the potential to become love stories as respondents navigate the intricacies of modern relationships.
